James Ahern presently serves as Laidlaw & Company UK Managing Partner, and Founder of Laidlaw Venture Partners.
Jim brings over 15 years’ of experience to the Laidlaw Ventures team. His experience is directly relevant in capital formation, venture capital, investment banking and equity capital markets.
Jim has spearheaded relationships with innovation laboratories at universities that has allowed for the incubation of multiple companies in the LVP Portfolio. He has also worked with entrepreneurs as a funding and advisory partner to move therapeutics, medical technologies, and other assets forward.
Jim proudly served as the firms head of capital markets, where he is credited with establishing a highly recognized quality fundamental health care brand. With a devotion to brand cognizance, Laidlaw Capital Markets is recognized today as a fundamental health care investment bank providing targeted outreach to relevant health care centric investors. During his tenure, Jim led or played an integral role in providing its clients with over 6 Billion dollars in capital.
Jim currently serves on the board of directors of Algorithm Sciences, Voltron Therapeutics, PD Theranostics, and Aerwave Medical Technologies. In addition, JIM proudly serves on the board of overseers of the Massachusetts bay big brothers big sisters foundation. Jim is Vice Chair of the annual BBBS golf outing, an event which brings in approximately 1 million dollars annually for the foundation. He’s also a proud supporter of his alma mater, The Northfield Mount Hermon School, where he serves as Chairman of the Basketball Academic Center of Excellence.
Luke KottkeHead of Capital Markets
Luke Kottke serves as Head of Capital Markets within the Global Capital Markets group where he joined in 2011. Mr. Kottke also serves as Head of Syndicate. Prior to joining Laidlaw, Mr. Kottke served as Vice President on the Global Capital Markets desk at a publicly traded investment banking firm in New York City. Over his career, he has been instrumental in raising over $3 billion of capital in several hundred investment banking transactions, with a focus on the Healthcare and Technology sectors, leveraging his strong relationships with buy-side investment firms across Wall Street. Mr. Kottke’s expertise in selling investment banking products and research has made him an invaluable resource to numerous banking clients. He began his career at Sonostar Capital Partners, a venture capital and private equity firm. Mr. Kottke also worked at Merrill Lynch as a financial advisor where he earned his series 7 and 66 licenses. Outside of the firm, Luke is a member of the Big Brothers Big Sister of MA’s Annual Charity Golf Event and is also involved in the Pyro’s Wings Foundation. Luke is a graduate of the University of Scranton and resides in New Jersey with his wife and three children.
Mathew MoschovasSenior Associate, Global Capital Markets
Mathew Moschovas is a Senior Associate on the Global Capital Markets Desk where he joined in 2017. Matt has helped in providing capital-raising solutions for micro-cap to mid-cap companies across multiple sectors via IPO, Secondary, PIPE, Private Placement, Bridge Loan, Reverse Merger, and Registered Direct offerings. He has assisted in raises for both public and private companies during his time, totaling over $1 billion. He also assists on the Syndicate Desk, gaining access to bulge bracket firm led IPO’s and Secondaries. Matt is a graduate of Montclair State University with a BA in Finance. Matt is a former collegiate baseball player and 4-year starter. Outside of the firm, Matt is a member of the B+ Foundation, an organization devoted to financial assistance, cancer research, and awareness, for children.
Patrick GallagherManaging Director
Patrick Gallagher has 20 years of healthcare experience on Wall Street including alternative investments, research and marketing in both the public and private markets. He co-founded Black Diamond Research, LLC (“BDR”), an independent sell-side research firm specializing in healthcare investing, financing and operations, serving the institutional investing community at large. Patrick was Chief Executive Officer of BDR until 2010 and oversaw institutional research and sales. Prior to 2001, he held various sales positions at Kidder Peabody, PaineWebber and New Vernon Associates.
Patrick served as VP of Business Development and Investor Relations as well as a strategic consultant for Kinex Pharmaceuticals, a biotechnology firm focused on next-generation therapies in oncology and immunology. He also has served as an advisor to CHD Biosciences, a novel antimicrobial company. Mr. Gallagher serves on the board of directors of BioSig Technologies, Inc, a medical device company that is developing a proprietary technology platform in the electrophysiology space.
Mr. Gallagher received his BS from the University of Vermont, his MBA from Pennsylvania State University and is a CFA charter holder.
