James “Jimmy” Ahern is managing partner of Laidlaw & Company UK and founder of Laidlaw Venture Partners (LVP).

With 18 years of experience, Jim specializes in investment banking, capital formation, venture capital, and equity capital markets. His knowledge of investment banking and position as head of capital markets has given him a wealth of understanding of the capital raising process and its pitfalls, alongside experience of operating in the public markets with these smaller venture capital institutions.

While at Laidlaw, Jimmy has built the portfolio of the company by creating relationships with university innovation laboratories, allowing for the incubation of a number of corporations.

During his tenure, Jimmy has played an integral role in providing over $6 billion in capital. As head of capital markets, he has established highly recognized health care brands which has led to Laidlaw Capital Markets being credited as a fundamental healthcare investment bank.

Jimmy currently serves on the board of directors for Voltron Therapeutics, Algorithm Sciences PD Theranostics, and Aerwave Medical Technologies.

Jim’s philanthropic work outside of his professional life has led to him proudly serving on the board of overseers of the Massachusetts bay big brothers big sisters foundation, and acting as vice chair of the annual BBBS golf outing–an event which brings in approximately $1 million per annum.

Jimmy is also a proud supporter of his alma mater, the Northfield Mount Hermon School, where he serves as chairman of the Basketball Academic Center of Excellence.
